Just got the film scans back from Josh and Brittany's engagement session at Oklahoma City University. This is one of my favorites.

Shot's like this one are why I shoot weddings and why I shoot film at weddings. I have so many more photos from this wedding that I cannot wait to share. This one is definitely one of my favorites.
Congratulations, Lauren and Dave.

Here's one from Katie and Garrett's wedding a couple of weeks ago. I don't post a lot of detail shots since I really believe a wedding is about the people and not the details, but I just can't help myself with this one. The colors of the bouquet and the stained glass are just to0 good. Shot's like this are why I shoot film (in addition to digital). The digital shots of the same scene simply did not do it justice.

For this entry, I wanted to show something a little different than normal - something that happens at nearly every wedding, but is rarely photographed. In this shot, taken at Allison and Danny's wedding early this summer, I was able to capture a bridesmaid playing the role of spectator as the guys were being photographed. This sort of "spectating" happens at nearly every wedding, and I really don't know why it hasn't occurred to me until very recently to try to capture it in action.

Here is one of my favorite shots from Blair and Lane's wedding earlier this summer. This shot captures a completely candid moment of Blair as she preps in the bridal room. Capturing moments such as this one are one of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer. Many more coming from Blair and Lane's wedding very soon.

So many magazines and blogs these days are filled with images of gorgeous details, but more often than not, those images lack a human element. Viewing those images, one might think that a wedding day has become less about the marriage of two people and more about styling and looks. Are these really the kinds of images you will look back and cherish in 30 years?
When it comes to capturing the details of a wedding day, of course I shoot some plain details, but I also always do my very best to incorporate them into the larger story of the wedding day. For me, photographing a wedding is about telling a story about the marriage of two people in a creative and artistic way. It's about capturing the emotions and atmosphere of the wedding day. Details play an important role in this, but alone, the details don't tell the full story. This I prefer to look for details throughout the flow of the wedding day and always try to include the story with the details. This image from Ashton and Dane's wedding last month is a great example. The goal for this image was to capture the shoes - a contrived "detail shot" for most photographers. Instead of going with the traditional setup shot, I opted to capture the shoes when the maid of honor was helping the bride put them on. In my mind, this image tells a story. It captures the moment and also emphasizes the shoes and dress at the same time. It has that sense of completeness that a good photograph should have.

Here's one of my favorite shots from Allison and Danny's wedding this past weekend at the Oklahoma Golf and Country Club. This was my first time shooting at this venue, and I owe a big thank you to Kevin Paul for having me along to shoot with him. Kevin is an amazing photographer and you should definitely check out his work if you haven't already. Now, on to more about the image. I'm a huge fan of capturing unscripted moments during the wedding day. In this particular shot, we were heading up the stairs to prepare for the first look. I held the door open at the bottom of the stairwell, and as I started to follow the bride and bridesmaid up the stairs, I saw this image in my mind. I quickly adjusted my settings for the dark room and prepared to make the shot. As everything lined up compositionally, I fired off several frames. Immediately, I knew I had a really nice shot. After reviewing the few frames, this was my favorite, mainly due to the body positions and how the dress is falling. One of my favorite frames to date.
Congratulations, Allison and Danny!
